Be liberated from stress and trauma through yoga and holistic life coaching.

Hello! I’m Patricia Motus, OTR/L, RYT-200

I am an occupational therapist who uses yoga, meditation, grounding, and life & health coaching to help you to move forward. In a way that feels safe and supported. Yoga is more than an exercise program with flexible poses. It’s a tool to heal the body, mind, and spirit through a combination of meditation, breathing, movement, and routine.

Yoga itself isn’t the cure to get unstuck from a tough past. My unique approach establishes or upgrades your yoga practice, bringing it to a more practical level. We take a look at your daily life and work on goal setting, coping skills, and developing a healthy routine to increase focus, feelings of safety, and life satisfaction.

To the rest of the world, you might be moving forward beautifully. However, if we were to look beneath the surface, are you still struggling?

Never underestimate the impact of stress and trauma. It can change your brain, your outlook on life, and your ability to connect with others. Counseling and medications are amazing tools; but, sometimes stop short of restoring your peace, confidence, and feeling of safety.

Your past isn’t going to magically go away. Instead, Imagine the possibilities of daily life if it didn’t feel like such a challenge. If you slept better at night, felt more focused, experienced the ability to set and achieve goals. If your body, mind and spirit experienced a deep sense of safety.

There is hope for creating a good life even after trauma or tough life circumstances.

Don’t let your past challenges hold you back from your dreams – personally, emotionally, spiritually, and professionally. You deserve a beautiful life!

My mission is to provide a truly customized, integrative approach to bring healing and help you take back your life from stress and trauma.

Helping you to take steps to make change and move forward.

The Unlikely Inspiration for Wholistic Transitions

I became convinced of the power of alternative techniques such as yoga, mediation, and mindfulness while working as a mental health occupational therapist at various homeless shelters in New York City. We offered yoga groups for the clients and the impact was inspiring. Men and women who you might not anticipate loving yoga, were calming their bodies and minds while focusing on their breathing.

The empowerment and calmness they experienced was something unusual in the noisy world of homeless shelters and living on the streets. And the impact was clear by their comments, faces, relaxed bodies, and repeat attendance.

I realized that the traditional view of yoga was too narrow. If yoga and mindfulness could be beneficial for these homeless individuals with difficult life stories, then it has the potential for helping many others with life trauma or significant loss.

Almost everyone can benefit from the practices of yoga and grounding, but the typical yoga class (or instructor) isn’t the right fit for every individual – especially those with a history of trauma. Harnessing the healing power of yoga requires an understanding of the complexity of trauma and creating an environment of trust.

My Story, My Work, and My Passion

My passion for creating Wholistic Transitions is the intertwining of my personal practice of yoga, my work in mental health as an occupational therapist, and my own story of trauma.

It’s important to recognize that each trauma story is unique. I caught daily glimpses into the impact of trauma while providing mental health occupational therapy to clients with experiences of domestic abuse, homelessness, and HIV.

As I worked with my clients, I honed my skills to listen and provide help to those with difficult life experiences. Helping my clients transform their lives required me to adapt my teaching to honor their unique stories and challenges.

Looking back, I didn’t set out to have a career focused on trauma. Rather, it became my calling after my own experience with traumatic loss. See, my mom passed away suddenly in the World Trade Center Towers on 9-11.

That alone doesn’t give me first-hand knowledge of all types of trauma, but it did leave its mark. Sending me on my own journey of healing and giving me a deeper understanding to connect with my clients.

I currently live and work in both New York and California. In addition to my work in yoga and trauma, I mentor OTs and teach Psycho-social Dysfunction at Stanbridge University.

This brings us to your unique story

I’m here to help you. I’ve experienced the benefits of yoga and meditation and witnessed how simple changes transform lives.

Your story deserves a happier chapter than your past. I offer support and tools of empowerment to heal your body and mind over time.

You don’t need to be in any particular physical condition. I can tailor your services, based on your skill level. The main criteria for success is an open mind and your willingness to try a new path to wholeness.

Curious if Wholistic Transitions can help you on your journey to healing?
